ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy

ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy

Prerequisites;

Candidates should have studied to a minimum level of 5 grade A-C GCSE, or demonstrate  suitability through  experience. A current First Aid Certificate must be attained prior to final assessment.

Subject Units:

ITEC Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology &  Pathology (Unit 383)

Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies;

Content: Terminology; histology; integumentary, skeletal, muscular, respiratory, cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, digestive, nervous, endocrine, urinary and reproductive systems; pathology of disease and basic clinical assessment skills.

Unit assessment: Externally assessed one-hour 50 question multiple choice test.

Unit duration: This unit is taught one evening per week over 17 weeks

Principles & Practice of Complementary Therapies (Unit 384)

A theory only unit which examines the historical origins and basis of complementary therapy. Students will discover how Eastern philosophy can be integrated with biomedicine to benefit a wide range of clients. An assignment comprised of a short report on the principles and practice of 4 chosen therapies are used to assess progress.

Business Practice for Complementary Therapies (Unit 385)

Plan and prepare an appropriate business plan for your own complementary therapy practice. Irrespective of whether you plan to work alone or seek employment within the NHS or other organisation, our expert tutor will guide you to make your dream a reality.

Healthy Eating & Wellbeing for the Complementary Therapies Client (Unit 386)

Identify the constituents of a healthy eating programme for the complementary therapy client to include healthy eating plans for three client groups. This can be taken as a separate add on unit for interested students once all of the other units are completed.

Unit assessment: Units 384, 385 & 386 are tested by assignments which are internally marked and checked by the examiner for quality assurance.

Unit duration: Units 384, 385 & 386 are taught over individual class room days and are largely student led but you will be given lectures and guidance on the selection of suitable material for your assignment. Assignments may take the form of a written report or study with the inclusion of graphs, charts, diagrams or other pictorial content as appropriate.

Once they have been completed, Units 383, 384, 385 & 386 can be excluded from further courses undertaken and you will not need to repeat the assignments or assessments.

Provide Aromatherapy for Complementary Therapies (Unit 382)

Content: The course covers all aspects required to allow the student to work within the care industry to provide aromatherapy for a wide range of clients. Key contents include;

  • The concept and use of aromatherapy throughout history
  • The use of plants as medicine and their function in the production of   essential oils
  • The selection and correct use of aromatherapy oils including the detailed analysis of 42 oils
  • Methods of application including massage, skin creams and preparations, baths, compresses and inhalation
  • The structures of the body and how to apply aromatherapy in order to influence wellbeing
  • The management of stress and other conditions including the client requiring palliative care
  • Legislation applicable to the provision of aromatherapy including consent
  • Contraindications, medical referral and complications during treatment
  • Complete client care from assessment to home care

Unit Assessment:

  • 60 Case studies (suggested 10 clients x 6 treatments)
  • Practical assessment of an aromatherapy massage treatment carried out by an ITEC examiner
  • Assessment project- Analysis of essential oils

Unit Duration: Attendance is required at 8 practical days over 12 months. The student is expected to demonstrate practice hours through case histories for assessment.
