Acupuncture for Facial Rejuvenation

Acupuncture for Facial Rejuvenation

Cosmetic acupuncture has been practised in China for thousands of years, not only to promote youthfulness but as a remedy for many ailments and to promote general wellbeing.

It involves placing very tiny needles into special points around the face and body to alleviate common signs of ageing. When needles are inserted muscles and circulation are improved and this is understood to stimulate collagen production, feed and oxygenate the skin and firm the underlying muscle.

Needles are also located to balance energy, reduce stress and improve sleep which in turn leads to a general improvement in appearance.

What Can I Expect from the Treatment?

Because acupuncture works with the bodies natural energy, you will feel generally revitalised with an overall improvement in wellbeing. Because it is completely natural, the results look subtle and natural. The treatment will not give the dramatic effect of a surgical face lift but is suitable for those who want to regain a more natural youthfulness without the use of chemicals.

Many people initially notice that the skin has a more even tone and fine lines fade but as treatment progresses there can be a significant reduction in deep wrinkles, a regained firmness a lifting of the jowls.

Some specific improvements include;

  • Reduction in fine lines
  • Reduction in deep wrinkles
  • Improved colour and texture of skin
  • Firming of the jaw line
  • Reduction in puffiness and circles around the eyes
  • Lifting of the eyelids
  • Reduction in scarring
  • Reduction in acne and rosacea

As acupuncture points are not exclusive to the face other conditions that impact on your general health may also improve with a reduction in aches and pains, bowel problems, sleep problems and fatigue. At the initial assessment your general health will be discussed in detail and a treatment devised to fulfil your individual requirements.

How many Treatments Will I Need?

Improvements can be seen after just one treatment and although this can be immediately evident it is often more apparent the following day.

The number of treatments you require will depend ultimately on the initial condition of the skin and the results you wish to achieve. Some people opt for two or three sessions before a big event whilst others have a full course of 6 weekly treatments to optimise the results.

What Does treatment Involve?

During initial consultation a detailed medical history and facial assessment takes place and a specific treatment plan is developed to meet your specific needs.

Fine needles are inserted into points on the hands and feet and then the face. The facial needles are so tiny that they have to be applied with tweezers and consequently there is minimal discomfort. Most people do not experience any discomfort at all and find the whole process very relaxing.

Treatment lasts around 75 minutes with the needles being left in place while you relax to soothing music. Once the needles are removed treatment is finished with a special facial massage.

There are not usually any side effects to treatment although some people may rarely experience a small bruise. It is common to feel very relaxed following treatment and it is recommended that you take a short while to recover before driving or returning to work.

Because acupuncture works by stimulating the bodies natural healing abilities, once optimal results are achieved most people benefit from top up treatments on an occasional basis.

“ at first family and friends commented that I looked well but couldn't pin point why. After 3 sessions there was a big difference in the deep frown lines on my forehead”
